Fair Milk
Concrete support for Swiss producers
Fair-trade milk: 1 Swiss franc per liter for producers
Fair Milk is an initiative that guarantees a fair income for Swiss producers, providing them with 1 franc per liter sold. This amount covers the real costs of production, estimated at 98 centimes per liter (Agridea, 2016), and supports sustainable and fair farming.

How does it work?
The milk is collected, processed and distributed by the Lait Équitable cooperative, which guarantees fair remuneration for producers.
- Processors pay 70 centimes per liter.
- The cooperative adds 30 centimes to reach 1 franc.
Even if the milk in a carton doesn't come directly from a cooperative producer, every purchase supports a Swiss producer and the initiative as a whole.
Why is Fair Milk necessary?
For years, Swiss producers have been facing a major crisis: market milk prices (60 to 70 centimes per liter) are well below production costs. This situation is jeopardizing their business:
%
In 25 years, Switzerland has lost over 60% of its dairy farms, from 44,000 to 17,164.
Between 2022 and 2023 alone, 439 farms went out of business, a drop of 2.5% in a single year.
Who are the producers concerned?
Until 2021, the project included cheese producers (such as those of Gruyère). From now on, only industrial milk producers will be included, as milk for cheese is generally better remunerated.
Cremo's commitment
Cremo actively supports Fair Milk by processing and marketing this milk through its own distribution network. Through this commitment, Cremo plays a full part in preserving Swiss agriculture and guaranteeing a fair income for producers.

European solidarity
Fair Milk Switzerland, marketed under the Faireswiss brand, is part of a wider movement coordinated by the European Milk Board (EMB). This initiative brings together similar projects in several countries, such as Faire Milch in Austria and FaireFrance in France. Together, they share a common goal: to promote fair and sustainable milk production for producers, while raising awareness among consumers.
In short, every liter of Fair Milk purchased contributes to supporting Swiss producers, preserving our farms and encouraging a sustainable agricultural model. With its commitment, Cremo is taking part in this solidarity-based approach, which is essential for the future of Swiss agriculture.
